A good reason to determine your skin type is to help you select the best products for your skin. Grab a pen and paper, answer each question by choosing the one that applies to you the most, write down the letter that's next to your answer.
1. My skin tends to look:
A. shiny or greasy
B. shiny T-zone (across your forehead, from centre of forehead to chin)
C. clear (neither shiny nor ashy/grey)
D. ashen/grey, flaky
E. red and irritated
F. blotchy or has dark marks
2. In terms of pimples/acne or blackheads, my skin:
A. frequently develops both
B. often develops both on my forehead and chin
C. occasionally develops a pimple
D. may break out in pimples (if you're a woman during monthly cycle)
E. rarely develops blemishes, small rashes appear using some products
F. develops blemishes that always leave dark marks
3. My pores tend to appear:
A. visible and large
B. visible and large in certain areas
C. small, barely noticeable
D. neither small nor large
E. noticeable, but not very prominent
F. I don't even notice my pores because of the dark marks
4. I usually need to wash my face:
A. 3 or more times a day
B. 2 or 3 times a day

If your answers were...
Mostly A's: You have oily skin:
- most obvious sign of oil skin is a shiny or greasy appearance all over the face
- you may need to wash your face several times a day to remove excess oil
- this excess oil contributes to blackheads and frequent blemishes
- your pores will be very visible
- your pores will be very visible
- you may see large yellow bumps on your skin, these are enlarged oil glands
Mostly B's: You have combination skin:
- you have oiliness across the forehead, down the nose and chin
- your cheeks remain normal or dry
- you'll develop blemishes particulariy in the T-zone area
- perhaps flaky skin on the cheeks
Mostly C's: You have normal skin:
- you will have some oil distributed throughout but no shine to the face
- after washing with a mild cleanser your skin appears neither ashen/grey or shiny
- you don't need to wash your face or apply a moisturiser during the day
- blemishes may occur, but you do not get blackheads or large pores
Mostly D's: You have dry skin:
- skin will feel tight after washing even with a mild soap, will feel tight all day
- skin flaking, or ashiness/grey is typical for dry skin
- your pores may be smalland hard to notice
- you will need to use a moisturizer on most days
- you may still develop acne
Mostly E's: You have sensitive skin:
- your skin becomes easily irritated, itchy and red
- you are prone to getting fine rashes
- you need to select facial and hair products to avoid these reactions
- over the counter hydrocortisone creams to help remove irritations
Mostly F's: You have hyperpigmenting skin:
- your skin has a large propensity to develop hyperpigmentation
- you must avoid products that can irritate skin, produce rashes or worsen acne
- you skin may also be dry, oil or a combination of the two
